Health & Wellbeing
The Health and Wellbeing programme was set up to offer Conservatorium students the tools towards a healthy and sustainable future as a musician. With training sessions, workshops but also sports & other forms of information in regard to health, the Health & Wellbeing programme has a focus on both physical and mental health.
It is well-known that it is more and more difficult to keep a healthy work-life balance. The prevalence of stress, tiredness, anxiety, or even depression and burn-out is increasing worldwide in many occupations, also among musicians. Within this Health & Wellbeing programme, mental support and mindfulness is of great importance. Mental health includes our emotional, psychological and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel and act. Feeling well starts with feeling happy, healthy and comfortable. We try to improve our students’ wellbeing by offering not only theoretical courses but also practical courses. These provide actual exercises to keep not only your body but also your voice in shape.
Workshops we may offer among others are:
- Mindfulness
- Body/Muscles or Voice (voice- and physiotherapy)
- Prevent pain by playing in an ergonomic posture (Mensendieck)
- Yoga
- Stage fright
It’s important for musicians to preserve and maintain optimum health as “Moving Musicians”. With this programme, the students learn more about health risks along with the medical explanations there are for health problems often seen in musicians. They will be actively involved in reflecting on their health in the perspective of being a moving musician, keeping a good work-life balance and a healthy career.
