The curtain has come down on the Maastricht Jazz Awards 2024, which enthralled audiences with a series of impressive performances.
The event, organised by Conservatorium Maastricht and Jazz Maastricht, celebrated the originality of Conservatorium Maastricht's output over the past five years and highlight new voices in the professional field of jazz. Various students, alumni and young professionals were invited to participate in the Maastricht Jazz Awards. The prestigious award consisted of a cash prize of €1000, a coaching programme, automatic entry into the B-Jazz International Contest 2024 and the opportunity for festival performances such as JazzOUT Presents to take the winners' musical ambitions to the next level. The winner of the audience prize received a cash prize of €500.
Winning the grand prize, Elliot drew inspiration from J.S. Bach, Bulgarian voices and free improvisation to win the prestigious prize. Their blend of tenor saxophone, trumpet, drums, bass and guitar thrilled spectators and judges alike. Another remarkable achievement by Loes+, led by Marloes De Nul, was winning the audience prize with their electronically influenced jazz. Marloes's evocative lyrics against minimalist grooves and harmonies demonstrated her musical skill and left a lasting impression on the audience.
