Ibrahim and Hassan Ignatov Advance to the Next Round of the Chopin Competition

11 March 2025

Fantastic news from the piano department of Conservatorium Maastricht: Ibrahim and Hassan Ignatov, third-year students at our conservatory, have successfully passed the preliminary round of the prestigious Chopin Competition. They have been invited to travel to Warsaw later this year for the next stage of this internationally renowned competition. Ibrahim studies with Jeroen Riemsdijk, and Hassan follow lessons under the guidance of Joop Celis.

The Chopin Competition, held every five years, challenges pianists worldwide with rigorous demands regarding repertoire and technical skill. The final will take place in October 2025. Out of 642 candidates, only 171 pianists have been selected for the next round, and the Ignatov brothers are proud to be part of this select group.

Participation in the Chopin Competition is an impressive achievement, given the high standards set for the participants. Ibrahim and Hassan have proven they are capable of meeting these challenges, and we look forward to their continued musical development.

We wish Ibrahim and Hassan the best of luck in the upcoming round!

More information about the Chopin Competition can be found on the official event website.
