Conservatorium Maastricht Presents: Gioachino Rossini's "Tancredi"

Conservatorium Maastricht invites you to an enchanting performance of Gioachino Rossini's masterpiece "Tancredi." A superb example of Rossini's virtuosity and dramatic flair, this opera transports the listener to ancient Syracuse (Italy) during the First Crusade. Immerse yourself in a story full of love, honour and betrayal, told by the promising talents of our conservatoire.

About the Opera
Tancredi, an opera in two acts, is based on Voltaire's play "Tancrède" and first premiered in Venice in 1813. The story follows the adventures of Tancredi, an exiled nobleman, and his beloved Amenaide, who is accused of treason. Portrait of Roberta Faroldi

Roberta Faroldi - Stage Director
Specializing in operatic-musical theatre, Roberta Faroldi has worked with renowned directors such as Graham Vick and Liliana Cavani. She has revived historical opera productions and directed performances in major theatres across Europe, Mexico, and China. With a background in music and theatre studies, she has staged numerous operas and authored theatrical works. She currently teaches at the Conservatorio "A. Boito" in Parma and is a key member of the European Opera Academy. As founder and Artistic Director of the MICRON Chamber Opera Festival, she received the Abbiati Prize in 2020 for best educational project.

Jill Gielkens – Set Designer

Jill Gielkens is a graduating scenographer from the Toneelacademie Maastricht. Her work is characterized by a raw, melancholic, and nostalgic aesthetic. She often creates absurdist imagery that highlights the harshness of reality while maintaining a sense of humor and camp—like a clown in an abandoned building.

Ylke Siemensma – Costume Designer

Ylke Siemensma is a graduating costume designer from the Toneelacademie Maastricht. For this production, she designed and created all the costumes. As this was her first experience working on an opera, she was deeply moved by the sheer beauty and power of the singers' voices from the very first rehearsal. This inspiration drove her to contribute by designing costumes that complement the grandeur of the production. Being part of this project has been both an inspiring and educational journey—an honor she will cherish.
