In 1991 he was appointed as a saxophonist with the former Royal Military Band of the Netherlands in The Hague. Since 2006 he has been the Principal Saxophonist in the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy in Rotterdam (www.marinierskapel.nl). He has played the saxophone in many ensembles and orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, the Netherlands Wind Ensemble and the Aurelia Saxophone Quartet. As a soloist, he has performed with various orchestras, such as the former Royal Military Band of the Netherlands, the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy, the Limburg Symphony Orchestra and many amateur wind orchestras. He plays chamber music as a member of the Mosa Saxophone Quartet. In 2015 he was appointed by Yamaha as a Yamaha artist.
Cnoops had his first lessons in conducting with André Presser. In 1998, he was admitted to Jan Stulen's orchestra class at Conservatorium Maastricht. For his final assessment, he was given the opportunity to conduct the Limburg Symphony Orchestra during a full evening concert, which was also recorded live for radio. He graduated with distinction.
He has since conducted the Limburg Symphony Orchestra on several occasions. He has also conducted the Netherlands Promenade Orchestra, the Royal Military Band of the Netherlands and the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy, where he served as acting conductor for a few months in 2010. Since 2003, he has been the conductor of the Koninklijke Fanfare Eensgezindheid in Maasbracht-Beek, (www.eensgezindheid.com) which in 2005 became world champion in the concert division of the fanfare section at the World Music Contest in Kerkrade (Netherlands).
