Wednesday's Pins and Needles performed on the IMC12 Fungal Landscapes
19 December 2024
The four musicians of Wednesday's Pins and Needles, with the support of Conservatorium Maastricht, Zuyd Hogeschool, improvised and performed the music that supported the movie Fungal Landscapes by Wim van Egmond. The movie was shown during the opening ceremony of the IMC12, which took place in Maastricht on 11-15 August 2024.
About Wednesday’s Pins and Needles
This group is a collective of chaotically excellent human beings who happen to all be illustrious Women playing instruments. Yeah it’s a girl band, we made it that way. A bunch of Wednesday Madames.
Wednesday’s Pins and Needles - tingly slightly prickly slightly Wednesday middle of the week will not meddle with the weak and all they can promise is: groove, soul, skill, and a dose of silly-ness.
This group is comprised of:
Julia Warren - saxophone (Conservatorium Maastricht alumni)
Originally from Montréal, Canada, Julia brings her sound anywhere it’s welcome, from the acoustic bandstand to electronic beats, and all with her particular strain of experimental and unapologetic melodicism. In addition to a variety of festivals and collabs in underground happenings, J can be most likely spotted snooping around the resting place of the Mosaraurus in Maastricht.
Pian Vane - keys (Conservatorium Maastricht Student)
Pian is a storyteller through her music. Once upon a time, Pian made the brave transition from classical music to that which we dare to call jazz. This leap of faith was taken a number of years ago, and now you can catch Pian all over Limburg with either her own group Micro Oxygen, as a sideperson in many projects or as a teacher of piano and composition. She worships yellow creatures with blue pants, one or two eyes more than anybody else we know.
Melanie Kleinsorg - drums
Melanie is an almost secret drummer until recently. You should probably ask her about her flute skills, circus school, puppets and/or where’s the best place to busk. She calls herself a Synapsenmacher: when you act out naturally and people are startled. While trying to make sense of it, they have to build up new connections in their brains to do so. That makes them brighter. It’s fun too. She also likes repairing cars. https://www.daskasperletheater.de/
Lea Maria Lingen - ebass (Conservatorium Maastricht student)
Lea is a low end maestro of her own right, and is a frequently sought after bassist from Germany. She collaborates as a sideperson all over the BeNeLux euregio in many different styles from neo-soul, swing jazz, and more. But styles aside and most importantly, she knows how to bring the essence of FUNK.
