Music Award Maastricht 2025 - Een viering van pianomuziek geïnspireerd door de natuur
Jonge, getalenteerde pianisten van over de hele wereld hebben hun weg gevonden naar het Conservatorium Maastricht om hun passie voor muziek te volgen. Dit jaar staan vier uitzonderlijke finalisten in de schijnwerpers van de Music Award Maastricht 2025, waar de kracht en schoonheid van pianomuziek samenkomen met het thema Natuur. Laat je deze avond meevoeren door betoverende pianoklanken die je meenemen op een muzikale reis langs uitgestrekte landschappen, kabbelende beekjes en betoverende wouden.
De finalisten strijden om de felbegeerde hoofdprijs van €5.000,-, toegekend door een deskundige jury bestaande uit Ralph van Raat (vz), Ellen Corver, Frank Peters en Anna Fedorova. Zij beoordelen de finalisten op basis van artistieke expressie, technisch meesterschap en podiumuitstraling. De winnaar kan deze prijs inzetten voor verdere muzikale en artistieke ontwikkeling, en de volgende stap in hun carrière.

This year, four exceptional finalists take centre stage at the Music Award Maastricht 2025, where the power and beauty of piano music merge with the theme of Nature. The finalists will compete for the coveted grand prize of €5,000, awarded by an expert jury consisting of Ralph van Raat (chair), Ellen Corver, Frank Peters, and Anna Fedorova. They will judge the finalists based on artistic expression, technical mastery, and stage presence. Hassan Ignatov, een 21-jarige pianist en componist uit Bulgarije, is student van Prof. Joop Celis. Hij begon zijn muzikale pad op 5-jarige leeftijd onder begeleiding van zijn vader, Denis Marinov, en startte met formele pianolessen op zijn 8e. Hij heeft Bulgarije meerdere keren vertegenwoordigd in televisieprogramma’s, een uitgebreide concertactiviteit en prestigieuze competities, zowel in Europa als daarbuiten – waaronder Carnegie Hall (VS), Arena O2 (VK), Duitsland, Oostenrijk, Frankrijk, België, Malta, Nederland, Rusland, de VAE, Turkije, Noord-Macedonië en Bulgarije.
Als componist bracht Hassan, samen met zijn tweelingbroer Ibrahim Ignatov, op 11-jarige leeftijd hun eerste boek met originele composities uit. Tot op heden hebben ze drie boeken met eigen werken gepubliceerd, waarvan de meest recente volledig gericht is op symfonische muziek.
In 2014 werd hij, na een strenge selectieprocedure, gekozen om Bulgarije te vertegenwoordigen op het Junior Eurovisie Songfestival, samen met Ibrahim Ignatov en Krisia Todorova, waarmee ze de 2e plaats behaalden.
Hij heeft meer dan 100 internationale en nationale onderscheidingen gewonnen, waaronder de Erepenning van de President van Bulgarije, de Gouden Erepenning en de Waardige Bulgaar-award. Hij is ereburger van Shumen en winnaar van de eerste prijzen op de International Piano Competition Liszt-Bartók-Kodály en de International Competition Pancho Vladigerov. He has represented Bulgaria many times in television shows, rich concert activity and prestigious competitions, both in Europe and abroad - Carnegie Hall (USA), Arena O2 (UK), Germany, Austria, France, Belgium, Malta, the Netherlands, Russia, the UAE, Türkiye, North Macedonia and Bulgaria. As a composer, Hassan, alongside his twin brother Ibrahim Ignatov, released their first book of original compositions at the age of 11. To date, they have published 3 books of their own works, with the latest entirely focused on symphony orchestra music. In 2014, following a challenging selection process, he was selected to represent Bulgaria at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest with Ibrahim Ignatov and Krisia Todorova, winning 2nd place. He has won over 100 international and national awards, among which the Badge of Honor of the President of Bulgaria, the Golden Badge, and the Worthy Bulgarian award. He is an honorary citizen of Shumen and winner of 1st prizes at the “International Piano Competition ‘Liszt-Bartok-Kodály’, International Competition 'Pancho Vladigerov', 2nd prizes at the International Chopin Piano Competition (Szafarnia) in Poland, International Piano Competition ‘Carl Maria von Weber’ in Germany. Ève Kerloc'h is een Frans-Spaanse pianiste en componiste die haar opleiding begon aan het Centro Integrado de Música Padre Antonio Soler, waar ze studeerde bij Isabel Villa en Javier Gómez Dólera. Later volgde ze compositie en orkestdirectie aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium van Madrid onder leiding van onder anderen Fernando Villanueva, Bruno Dozza en Juan Luis Martínez Navarro.
Tot Eve’s prestaties behoren de première van Barbieri’s opera Il Buontempone, waarvoor ze de vocale partituur voorbereidde en assisteerde als repetitor en assistent-dirigent. Ze werd geselecteerd voor het “Crescendo”-programma van het Koninklijk Theater van Madrid en werkte als repetitor voor hun productie A.I.D.A.
Met een grote passie voor kamermuziek behaalde ze samen met haar duo-partner Annya Pinto prijzen bij competities zoals AMAO, Antón García Abril, Francisco Torrecillas en Pedro Bote.

Eve's achievements include the premiere of Barbieri’s opera Il Buontempone, for which she prepared the vocal score based and assisted as the répétiteur and conductor's assistant. She was selected for the Royal Theatre of Madrid’s “Crescendo” program and served as a répétiteur for their production "A.I.D.A".
With a keen interest in chamber music, along with her duo partner Annya Pinto, she obtained the awards at competitions such as AMAO, Antón García Abril, Francisco Torrdecillas and Pedro Bote.
Eve has performed in renowned venues like the Royal Theatre of Madrid and Muziekgebouw Eindhoven. She is currently in the 2nd year of the Master at Conservatorium Maastricht with lecturer Jeroen Riemsdijk, where she is further developing her skills in piano accompaniment.

Vassilis Gavvaris, een 24-jarige pianist van Griekse en Cypriotische afkomst, volgt zijn master aan het Conservatorium Maastricht onder begeleiding van Dr. Katia Veekmans. Hij studeerde met hoogste onderscheiding af aan The American College of Greece en ontving de "Outstanding Graduate Award", waar hij als "Frances Rich"-beursstudent studeerde bij Dr. Tatiana Papageorgiou. Daarnaast behaalde hij zijn Nationale Piano Solistendiploma aan het Athene Panarmonio Conservatorium met een eerste prijs en begon hij zijn pianostudie aan het Nationaal Conservatorium van Sparta bij Maria Velmachou.
Als postdoctoraal beursstudent van de A.G. Leventis Foundation en de Greek Ship-Owners Union ("Onassis Scholarship"), heeft Vassilis erkenning gekregen in verschillende concoursen. Ralph van Raat is reeds sinds zijn veertiende jaar gefascineerd door met name de klassieke muziek van de 20e en 21e eeuw. Met een repertoire dat reikt van Bach tot Boulez, stelt hij zich tot doel om zijn publiek kennis te laten maken met de enorme schoonheid van muziek van dit tijdperk door het geven van solorecitals, lecture-recitals, het spelen van pianoconcerten met orkest, CD-releases en speciale projecten. Dit is niet onopgemerkt gebleven: als meervoudig prijswinnaar van binnen- en buitenlandse concoursen en stipendia, hebben veel componisten, van Louis Andriessen tot Tan Dun en van Gavin Bryars tot Frederic Rzewski, werken voor de pianist geschreven. Ralph van Raat has been fascinated by classical music of the 20th and 21st centuries since the age of fourteen. With a repertoire spanning from Bach to Boulez, his mission is to introduce audiences to the immense beauty of this era’s music through solo recitals, lecture-recitals, performances of piano concertos with orchestras, CD releases, and special projects.
His dedication has not gone unnoticed. As a multiple award-winner in both national and international competitions and scholarships, many composers—from Louis Andriessen to Tan Dun and from Gavin Bryars to Frederic Rzewski—have written works for him. Van Raat has performed more than 60 piano concertos worldwide with orchestras such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and he has recorded over 35 CDs.
A sought-after speaker and performer for radio and television, he also teaches in his spare time at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and the Accademia di Musica di Pinerolo in Turin. Since 2003, Ralph has been a Steinway Artist.

Ellen Corver studeerde bij Naum Grubert aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag. Op haar zeventiende leerde ze Karlheinz Stockhausen kennen. Ze ging met hem samenwerken en voerde werk van hem uit op internationale festivals als het Festival d’Automne en de Salzburger Festspiele. De samenwerking resulteerde in de registratie van veertien Klavierstücke voor piano solo, uitgebracht op het platenlabel van de componist.
Niet alleen is Ellen Corver bekend geworden door haar uitvoeringen van werken van Debussy, Ravel, Brahms, Beethoven en Haydn, maar ze heeft ook naam gemaakt als vertolkster van hedendaagse muziek. Zo voerde ze pianoconcerten uit van o.a John Cage, György Ligeti en György Kurtág, Klaas de Vries en Theo Verbey.
Als soliste trad Ellen Corver op met het Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest, het Radio Filharmonisch Orkest, het Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest en Asko|Schönberg, onder dirigenten als Markus Stenz, Jaap van Zweden, Peter Eötvös en Mariss Jansons.
In 1988 was Ellen mede-oprichtster van het Osiris Trio. Met dit ensemble deed zij vijf continenten aan met meer dan tachtig pianotrio’s van uiteenlopende componisten op het repertoire.
Zij heeft vele cd’s opgenomen, haar registratie van Mantra van Stockhausen werd bekroond met een Edison. Haar passie voor kamermuziek was de inspiratie voor vele samenwerkingen met een keur van musici.

Ellen Corver studied with Naum Grubert at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. At the age of seventeen, she met Karlheinz Stockhausen, with whom she began a collaboration that led to performances of his works at international festivals such as the Festival d’Automne and the Salzburger Festspiele. This partnership resulted in the recording of fourteen Klavierstücke for solo piano, released on the composer’s own label.
Ellen Corver is widely recognized not only for her interpretations of Debussy, Ravel, Brahms, Beethoven, and Haydn but also for her distinguished work in contemporary music. She has performed piano concertos by composers such as John Cage, György Ligeti, György Kurtág, Klaas de Vries, and Theo Verbey.
As a soloist, she has appeared with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, and Asko|Schönberg, under the baton of conductors including Markus Stenz, Jaap van Zweden, Peter Eötvös, and Mariss Jansons.
In 1988, Ellen co-founded the Osiris Trio. With this ensemble, she toured five continents, performing over eighty piano trios by a wide range of composers.
She has recorded numerous CDs, and her recording of Stockhausen’s Mantra was awarded an Edison. Her passion for chamber music has inspired many collaborations with an exceptional array of musicians.

Frank Peters studeerde bij Jan Wijn aan het Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam. Na het winnen van meerdere prijzen op nationale en internationale concoursen, waaronder het Internationale Prokofjev Concours in Sint-Petersburg, trad hij op in alle grote concertzalen van Nederland en speelde hij in Europa, Rusland, China, Australië en de Verenigde Staten.
Als solist werkte hij samen met onder andere het RFO, het Residentie Orkest, het Gelders Orkest, Phion en het Pools Nationaal Radio Orkest. Daarnaast is hij een veelgevraagd kamermuziekpartner. Met het Hexagon Ensemble nam hij verschillende cd’s op, waaronder recent Ich Liebe Dich met werken van Mozart en Beethoven.
Samen met mezzosopraan Ekaterina Levental heeft Frank het complete liedoeuvre van Nikolaj Medtner opgenomen voor Brilliant Classics. De vijf cd’s, met 111 liederen en twee grote Vocalises, zijn zowel nationaal als internationaal met lof ontvangen. In Rusland werd hun werk bekroond met de Pure Sound Award 2021, een prijs voor de beste opname van Russische muziek. Dit project was een unieke, nog niet eerder ondernomen prestatie.
In het najaar presenteren Frank en pianist Caspar Vos een cd met Medtners werken voor twee piano’s, Rachmaninovs Symfonische Dansen en Prokofjevs Cinderella.
Frank Peters is hoofdvakdocent piano aan het Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

Frank Peters studied with Jan Wijn at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam. After winning several prizes at national and international competitions, including the International Prokofiev Competition in St. Petersburg, he performed on major stages across the Netherlands, Europe, Russia, China, Australia, and the USA.
As a soloist, he has performed with ensembles such as the RFO, the Residentie Orchestra, the Gelders Orchestra, Phion, and the Polish National Radio Orchestra. He is also a sought-after chamber music partner. With the Hexagon Ensemble, he has recorded several CDs, including the recent release "Ich Liebe Dich" featuring works by Mozart and Beethoven.
Alongside mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Levental, Frank recorded the complete song cycle of Nikolai Medtner for Brilliant Classics. The five CDs, featuring 111 songs and 2 major Vocalises, have received widespread acclaim both nationally and internationally. In Russia, their work was awarded the Pure Sound Award 2021, a prize for the best recording of Russian music. This project was a pioneering achievement.
In the autumn, Frank, together with pianist Caspar Vos, will present a CD featuring Medtner's works for two pianos, Rachmaninoff's Symphonic Dances, and Prokofiev's Cinderella.

Vanaf jonge leeftijd toonde de in Oekraïne geboren pianiste Anna Fedorova een aangeboren muzikale rijpheid en indrukwekkende technische vaardigheden. Haar live-opname van Rachmaninoffs 2e pianoconcert heeft meer dan 44 miljoen weergaven op YouTube en wordt hoog geprezen door critici en wereldberoemde musici.
Anna was een van de eerste musici die benefietconcerten organiseerde voor de slachtoffers van de oorlog in Oekraïne en zamelde meer dan 500.000 euro in voor humanitaire hulporganisaties. Ze voerde Chopins Pianoconcert nr. 2 uit met het Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra tijdens een tournee langs de grote concertzalen van Europa (waaronder de BBC Proms) en de Verenigde Staten.
Als internationaal concertpianiste trad Anna op bij festivals zoals La Roque d’Anthéron en speelde ze tijdens de opening van het Verbier Festival met het Verbier Festival Orchestra. From an early age, the Ukrainian-born pianist Anna Fedorova showed an innate musical maturity and amazing technical abilities. Her live recording of Rachmaninoff’s 2nd Piano Concerto has more than 44 million views on YouTube and is highly acclaimed by critics and world-renowned musicians. Anna was one of the first musicians to organize benefit concerts for the victims of the war in Ukraine and raised over 500,000 Euro for humanitarian aid organizations. Anna Fedorova performed Chopin's Piano Concerto No.2 with the Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra on a tour of the major concert halls of Europe (incl. BBC Proms) and the United States. As an international concert artist, Anna has performed at international festivals such as La Roque d’Anthéron and at the opening of the Verbier Festival with the Verbier Festival Orchestra. Pieter van Nes is een presentator en muzieksamensteller voor KRO-NCRV op de radiozender NPO Klassiek (voorheen NPO Radio 4). Hij presenteert daar op de vrijdagavond Passaggio Late Night en op zondagochtend het programma De Ochtend. Verder is hij als invaller regelmatig te horen in de programma’s Maatwerk (Omroep MAX) en het Avondconcert (NTR). Voor Pieter begon zijn muzikale loopbaan op het ArtEZ Conservatorium in Arnhem, waar hij klarinet heeft gestudeerd en zich ook toelegde op dirigeren. Actief musiceren, met name in orkestverband en in kamermuziek, is altijd een grote passie geweest en gebleven, maar al snel bleek dat juist het verhaal achter de noten hem echt interesseerde en dat hij daarmee verder wilde. Hij besloot daarom de opleiding muziekwetenschap aan de Universiteit Utrecht te volgen, waar hij zich hoofdzakelijk toelegde op de 19e- en 20e-eeuwse muziekgeschiedenis. Pieter is regelmatig te horen in podcasts, houdt graag interviews, presenteert concerten en geeft lezingen. Zolang het maar met klassieke muziek te maken heeft, dan is Pieter er graag bij betrokken.

Pieter's musical career began at the ArtEZ Conservatorium in Arnhem, where he studied clarinet and also specialized in conducting. He therefore decided to study musicology at Utrecht University, where he focused mainly on 19th- and 20th-century music history.
Pieter can be heard regularly on podcasts, enjoys doing interviews, presents concerts and gives lectures.
