Maite Hontelé

Maite Hontelé is a Dutch trumpet player, renowned for her deep connection with Latin American music. Born in the Netherlands, she developed a passion for salsa and son cubano, which led her to a successful career in Colombia, where she became a celebrated artist. She has performed worldwide and shared the stage and recording studio with legends such as Rubén Blades, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Oscar D’León, Orquesta Aragón, Vicente García and many others. As a bandleader, she has released six albums and was nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2014 and 2019.

After a break in her career, she returned in 2023, focusing on the flugelhorn, and became conductor of the NJJO (National Youth Jazz Orchestra of the Netherlands). She also performs as a duo with Cuban pianist Ramón Valle, with their new album HAVANA released in September 2025.

Alongside her musical career, Maite works as a television presenter in the Netherlands, sharing her expertise and enthusiasm for music with a wider audience.
