Junior Conservatorium Maastricht students shine at (inter)national competitions

Students from Junior Conservatorium Maastricht have recently achieved excellent results at a number of prestigious national and international competitions, bringing home several prizes and distinctions.

Cellist Huajin Gu (13), a student of Alexander Petrasch, won third prize at the national final of the Princess Christina Classical Competition 2026 in The Hague. A fantastic achievement in one of the Netherlands’ leading competitions for young musicians. Huajin recently spoke to RTV Maastricht about the experience and his success.

Another impressive result came from Lea Migalnikova, a student of Kyoko Yonemoto, who received a Certificate of Merit (1st Grade) in Category 4 of the renowned Kocian Violin Competition in Ústí nad Orlicí, Czech Republic. Competing against talented young violinists from around the world, Lea earned this distinction with an outstanding performance. More informatie and the competition results can be found here.

Success also came from Belgium, where Akari Bastiaens (piano) and Hendrik de Rycke (cello) took part in the August De Boeck Competition in Mechelen. Both were named laureates, earning the opportunity to perform as soloists with the Mechelen Chamber Orchestra on 25 October. Read more.

These achievements reflect the dedication, talent and hard work of our young musicians, and next to that, the support and guidance of their teachers.
